Heavy rain from May 30 into the morning of May 31 flooded several streets in Nha Trang Ward, Khanh Hoa Province, disrupting traffic.

The flooding caused traffic disruptions across parts of the ward. One car broke down after attempting to pass through a deeply flooded section of 2 Thang 4 Street.

Nguyen Tien Nhan, a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City, said his family had arrived in Nha Trang for a weekend holiday but was forced to change its plans because of the weather.

"We had planned to visit the beach and several outdoor attractions, but the rain started early in the morning. We'll switch to indoor activities and wait for conditions to improve," he said.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Khanh Hoa Province and parts of the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam experienced moderate to heavy rainfall between 7 pm on May 30 and 8 am on May 31.

Forecasters said Khanh Hoa could continue to see moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms through the night of May 31, with rainfall of 25-55 mm and some areas receiving more than 100mm.

The weather agency warned of increased flooding risks in low-lying areas, urban districts and roads with overloaded drainage systems.

Residents were advised to avoid flooded areas and remain alert to lightning, hail, strong winds and other hazardous weather associated with thunderstorms.

Rainfall is expected to ease from June 1 in Khanh Hoa and parts of Dak Lak, Lam Dong and southeastern Vietnam.
