The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said on October 12 that it had approved a plan for periodic inspection and calibration flights to check navigation equipment and aeronautical lighting systems at Long Thanh International Airport.
The flights will assess the instrument landing system and distance measuring equipment (ILS/DME), as well as the runway lighting system for runway 05R/23L.
The operation is scheduled to run from midnight on October 11 to 11.59 pm on October 19.

To ensure safety, the authority has instructed Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and Long Thanh International Airport to organise and carry out the flights in accordance with the approved plan.
The units must work closely with Air Traffic Technical Management Company (ATTECH), Long Thanh air traffic control tower and other relevant agencies to ensure the operation is conducted safely throughout.
The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has been instructed to direct its subordinate units to coordinate the safe management of the calibration flights and issue notices to airmen (NOTAMs) in accordance with regulations.
The Southern Airports Authority is responsible for inspecting and supervising compliance with aviation security and safety requirements during the operation.
ACV had previously submitted a request to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam for approval of the periodic calibration flights to test the airport’s navigation equipment and lighting systems.
Long Thanh airport is entering the final stage of development as authorities prepare to bring the facility into commercial operation.
Relevant agencies are working to complete construction, prepare staff and equipment, and conduct operational checks and trials to ensure the airport meets safety requirements before opening.
