On June 1, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the project's developer, launched a 180-day acceleration campaign to complete Long Thanh International Airport and prepare it for operation.

Under the plan, the airport will conduct three phases of trial operations in September, October and November before entering official service.
The move comes as the project continues to face challenges including labour shortages, payment issues involving contractors and rising construction material costs, all of which have raised concerns about potential delays.
The Vietnamese government has previously instructed ministries and agencies to coordinate efforts to remove obstacles and ensure the project remains on schedule.
Vu Pham Nguyen An, director of the Long Thanh Airport Project Management Board, said overall project completion has reached nearly 76 per cent.
The airport's first runway and aircraft apron have already been completed and successfully accommodated a calibration flight in December 2025.
Major construction packages have achieved more than 64 per cent of their contracted workload. During the latest reporting period, construction output increased by 3.76 per cent, while the disbursement rate rose by 1.44 per cent compared with the previous week.
"The project's progress has improved significantly after several payment-related bottlenecks were resolved," An said.
According to ACV, a number of key components have reached advanced stages of completion. The aircraft parking apron serving the passenger terminal is more than 88 per cent complete, the fuel supply system has exceeded 92 per cent completion, and connecting transport infrastructure has reached nearly 90 per cent of planned work.
The passenger terminal, the centrepiece of the project, has completed its main structural works and has entered the architectural finishing and equipment installation phase, with roughly two-thirds of the overall workload completed.
Project managers plan to deploy additional workers and equipment in the coming months, increasing the workforce to more than 9,000 personnel and maintaining continuous construction schedules.
Priority will be given to completing technical systems and cable installation to ensure the entire facility is connected to the power grid before June 10.

Long Thanh International Airport is being developed on an area of approximately 5,000 hectares in Long Thanh Ward, with a total investment of nearly USD 16 billion.
The first phase is expected to enter operation by the end of 2026 and is expected to stimulate growth in aviation logistics, free-trade activities, finance, hospitality, convention services and smart urban development surrounding the airport.
