The police's drug crime investigation unit said it had dismantled a group suspected of trafficking drugs online following an investigation into activities conducted via the messaging platform.
Officers identified the suspects after monitoring online activity and gathering evidence on their alleged methods of operation.
On May 12, police, in coordination with local authorities, detained Pham Van Tuan, 39, Vu Tuan Anh, 33, and Pham Ngoc Ninh, 28, in Ha Long Ward.
Authorities said they seized a metal container holding cannabis, a digital scale and numerous plastic bags allegedly used to divide and package drugs for sale.
According to preliminary findings, the suspects used Telegram to communicate, arrange transactions and trade illegal drugs while attempting to avoid detection by law enforcement agencies.
Police said the arrests would help curb drug trafficking activities conducted through online platforms and strengthen efforts to maintain public security in the province.
The investigation is ongoing.
