Under the directive, airlines are required to strictly follow instructions from the Ministry of Health, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health and the city’s Centre for Disease Control (HCDC) regarding health screening for arriving passengers.

Travellers returning from areas experiencing Ebola outbreaks are advised to proactively monitor their health for 21 days. Arriving passengers showing suspected symptoms will be directed to a temporary medical isolation area for epidemiological assessment, information collection and screening examinations.

If passengers display symptoms consistent with guidance from the Ministry of Health, HCDC will impose medical isolation measures, collect test samples and handle the case under regulations governing Group A infectious diseases.

Aviation staff and passengers have also been instructed to immediately notify the airport’s international health quarantine unit or the nearest medical facility if they identify anyone showing suspected Ebola symptoms after returning from outbreak areas.

Symptoms listed by authorities include fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and bleeding.

People who detect suspected cases are advised to contact the international health quarantine unit at Tan Son Nhat Airport on 0988.587.009, or the airport duty office on 028.3844.1740 or 028.3848.5383.
