According to Dong Nai City Police, at about 8.30 am on May 30, Bom Bo Commune Police received a report from local residents that a primate had been spotted in a local plantation area.
The commune police quickly deployed officers to coordinate with relevant units and the mobile forest ranger team in Bu Dang area to handle the case.

After an inspection, authorities identified it as a white-cheeked black gibbon, scientifically known as Nomascus leucogenys, weighing about 6 kilogrammes and in weak health.
Bom Bo Commune Police later handed the animal over to the Bu Gia Map National Park for further care, rehabilitation and release back into the wild in line with regulations.
The white-cheeked black gibbon is an especially endangered and rare forest species in Group IB. It is also listed in Vietnam's Red Book and is among species given priority protection.
