A big green park project in Hanoi has been postponed for the past ten years, leaving thousands of square metres a virtual wasteland.

The "park" remains fallow ground for 10 years
In December 2001 70,925-square metres in Trung Liet Ward in Dong Da District and Thanh Cong Ward, Ba Dinh District, were allocated for a large public park. The plans included relocating local households, forcing many to lease houses.
Nguyen Thi Hoa, a resident of Ao Thuoc Tho residential area in Trung Liet Ward, said, “Since 2001, when the city first planned to build the park, more than 100 households in our area agreed to hand over our land. We expected a green park, but we still have not got compensation.”
Now the land has basically become a dumping ground, covered with weeds, trash and used needles.
An official from Dong Da District, said the project has faced several problems, including resettlement. The project is currently being reviewed by municipal authorities.
