Vietnam confirmed an additional 11,692 Covid-19 infections on Tuesday and 11,017 patients were discharged from hospital following their recovery the same day, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 11,687 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 34 localities including HCM City (6,521), Binh Duong (3,609), Dong Nai (590), Long An (254), Kien Giang (134), An Giang (121), and Tien Giang (105). There were five imported patients confirmed today.
The new infection number showed an increase of 3,019 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 6,835 infections found in the community.
As of Tuesnday evening, 702,972 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (348,220), Binh Duong (183,314), Dong Nai (41,432), Long An (30,850), and Tien Giang (13,375). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 707,436. The country now stands 47th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On September 21, an additional 11,017 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 475,343.
On Tuesday evening, a further 240 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 17,545. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (184), Binh Duong (41), Kien Giang (3), Binh Thuan (3), Long An (2), Khanh Hoa (1), Ha Tinh (1), An Giang (1), Danang (1), Binh Phuoc (1), and Tien Giang (2).
The country has so far conducted over 35.07 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 6.78 million people having received two doses.
