The HP 90666-TS fishing boat departed from Mat Rong fishing port in Nam Trieu Ward at 11.30 am on May 26 before losing signal later that day near the Long Chau island area.
According to border guard authorities, the vessel lost communication at around 5.19 pm while operating about 18 nautical miles east of Long Chau Island and 26 nautical miles west of Bach Long Vi Island.
After receiving distress information, Haiphong authorities mobilised border guards, naval forces, coast guard units, maritime rescue teams and nearby fishing vessels to join the search operation.
Military authorities on Bach Long Vi Island also deployed additional personnel and civilian boats to assist rescue efforts.
By 1.45 pm on May 27, nine of the 11 people aboard the vessel had been rescued safely with support from local fishermen and rescue forces.
Authorities said the identities of the remaining two people were still being verified.
