Nha Trang traffic police officer assaulted

A man punched a traffic police officer in the mouth while he was trying to handle a minor road accident in Nha Trang Ward, Khanh Hoa Province, on Thursday morning, injuring him.

At about 6.30 am, a Nha Trang Ward traffic police team patrolling Tran Phu Street received a report of a traffic collision at the Tran Phu-Tue Tinh intersection and quickly arrived at the scene.

A Russian driver’s motorbike had hit another vehicle. After the crash, the two sides began arguing, prompting one lieutenant colonel to intervene.

While the police were meditating, the foreign man demanded that the lieutenant colonel hand back his motorbike so he could leave the incident site. When the request was denied and the officer turned to resume his duties, the foreigner suddenly punched him in the face.

The foreigner was restrained by traffic police and Nha Trang Ward officers and taken to the police station.

The police said the Russian national exhibited signs of alcohol use and was confirmed to be intoxicated.
