The body of Nguyen Van Nghia was found floating in the Saigon River on the morning of February 15 by a local resident, three days after he went missing at Mien Dong Bus Station.

Reports from local police said that the 19-year-old man who was the first-year student at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology caught a passenger bus from his Binh Dinh hometown on the evening of February 11 to enrol at the university. The bus arrived at the Mien Dong Bus Station in HCM City at 5 am on February 12.
Cameras at the bus station showed that Nghia got off the bus and caught a motorbike taxi right after that.

Following initial investigations, police summoned the motorbike taxi driver who said that he took the young man to the gate of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology some two kilometres from the bus station in the early morning of February 12. After receiving payment from the man, he left.
Police found no injuries on Nghia's body and he had all of his possessions. There is evidence he may have died by drowning, but some strange substances were found in his stomach and police are further investigating the case.
