Police spokesperson Nguyễn Sĩ Quang said the interrogation was ongoing because suspect Nguyễn Hoàng Nam appeared to be high on meth.
Nam is accused of killing his 51-year-old mother at their home in Tân Hiệp Commune, Hóc Môn District, before going to his 83-year-old grandmother’s house in Xuân Thới Thượng Commune and murdering her. He also assaulted his own father, nearly cutting off his hands and dealing several blows to his face and head.
Nam fled the house afterwards.
Nam’s father was rushed to hospital by neighbours but succumbed to his cut injuries.
Nam was apprehended late on Monday night.
Prior to the Hóc Môn rampage, Nam allegedly stopped at a relative’s house in Long An Province and killed another woman there.
Nam was once charged with robbery and has recently returned from rehab.
