Long Thanh Airport project needs 2,000 more workers

Developers of Long Thanh International Airport are seeking an additional 2,000 workers to keep the flagship infrastructure project on schedule for opening later this year.

Developers of Long Thanh International Airport have instructed contractors to recruit around 2,000 additional workers as construction enters a critical phase ahead of the airport's planned launch later this year.

On July 20, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) said overall construction had reached approximately 77.85 per cent of the value of signed contracts, while the project's major construction packages had achieved nearly 70 per cent completion.

Work on the airport's passenger terminal has reached 67.08 per cent of the contract value, with installation of terminal equipment approximately 62.1 per cent complete. Other construction packages are also being accelerated to ensure the airport is fully operational when commercial services begin.

The construction site currently employs an average of 7,170 direct workers. To meet project deadlines, ACV has instructed contractors to increase the workforce to nearly 9,000 direct employees, supported by additional administrative and technical staff responsible for documentation and project management.

According to ACV, the shortage of around 2,000 workers has become one of the project's most significant challenges.

The developer also warned that construction is entering a crucial stage during the rainy season, creating additional risks to both the schedule and construction quality. ACV noted that heavy rainfall in 2025 delayed outdoor construction works by between two and four months.

To minimise further delays, contractors have been instructed to implement a range of measures, including more detailed construction planning, improved drainage systems across the site, close monitoring of weather conditions and contingency plans for adverse weather.

Long Thanh International Airport, covering approximately 5,000 hectares, is one of Vietnam's largest infrastructure projects, with a total investment of nearly USD 16 billion.

The first phase is designed to handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo annually. It is expected to begin operations by the end of the year, easing pressure on Tan Son Nhat International Airport while supporting economic growth in southern Vietnam.
