Under the agreement the ministries will work together to increase access to free books and newspapers in communes’ cultural post offices. They will also initiate equipment upgrades for the post offices and create guidelines on the operation of libraries.
The move is part of a larger initiative by the government’s cultural development strategy by 2020, aiming to promote a reading culture and enhance the reading skills of young people.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son said the implementation of the cooperative agreement will help connect the publishing and telecom sector while, at the same time, contribute to the cultural development of the nation and reduce poverty.
To date, more than 8,000 cultural post offices have been built in communes across the country, offering necessary postal services and free books and newspapers for local people to enhance public knowledge.
