According to Hue City's Department of Health, the resident who had died from a Streptococcus suis infection was a 50-year-old man from Thuan Hoa Ward.
On July 1, he developed a fever and was hospitalised the next morning due to fatigue. He died later that day, with test results confirming a Streptococcus suis infection.
Epidemiological checks revealed no pig farming or outbreaks in the vicinity of his home and no symptoms among his close contacts. Thuan Hoa's veterinary staff confirmed there's no blue ear disease in the area. Environmental treatment is pending due to the ongoing funeral.
Meanwhile, 11 other patients from various areas in Hue City, including Kim Long, Phu Xuan, Huong An, An Cuu, Thuan An, Thuy Xuan, Duong No, and Thuan Hoa, have tested positive for Streptococcus suis since June 26.
The patients are currently being monitored and treated at Hue Central Hospital. Preventive health teams have disinfected their homes using Cloramine B solution to ensure environmental safety.
Hue City's Health Department has urged concerned units to step up public awareness on symptoms, prevention, and timely treatment. The municipal Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has reinforced rapid response teams, stocked essential supplies, and activated regular reporting and emergency protocols.
