Dr. William P. Magee, Co-founder and CEO of Operation Smile, led the delegation visiting CIH, the "core" of the Hoa Lam-Shangri-La International Hi-Tech Healthcare Park in Ho Chi Minh City.

“We are very excited and ready to cooperate with Operation Smile in order to bring about benefits to the community, especially children with harelips and cleft palates, as well as to contribute to the development of the country’s increasingly modern and effective healthcare sector,” said Ms. Tran Thi Lam, Chairman of the Hoa Lam Group. This was also her target when setting up the high-tech healthcare park.

Operation Smile was one of the first US non-government organizations in Vietnam, as part of the normalization of relations, and aims to bring smiles and change the lives of unfortunate children with congenital malformations through volunteer programs.

Joining the delegation, Mr. Nguyen Viet Phuong, Vice Chairman, Development, APAC, and Chief Representative of Operation Smile Vietnam, said: “Operation Smile’s goal is not to stop with implementing 2,000 to 3,000 surgeries for unfortunate children but to go further, to develop health facilities for community care that bring more sustainable outcomes.”

“With a huge resource of more than 12,000 volunteers and medical professionals trained in the last 35 years in more than 60 countries around the world, we hope to utilize this to further strengthen our intensive training programs and safe surgeries, creating conditions for people to have direct access to advanced medical services,” he added.

Dr. Truong Vinh Long, Managing Director of the Hoa Lam Corporation and General Director of the Hoa Lam International Hospital, said that after CIH, Hoa Lam International Hospital is the second to be completed at the healthcare park. It is also a high-tech multi-departmental general hospital, operated under the public-private partnership (PPP) model between the Hoa Lam Corporation and the 115 People’s Hospital, with more than 350 beds and investment of nearly $67 million. These are two among the six hospitals planned for the Hoa Lam-Shangri-La International Hi-Tech Healthcare Park.

In Vietnam since 1989, Operation Smile Vietnam and its partners have examined and treated more than 40,000 children, bringing new lives and smiles to the children and their families.

The Hoa Lam-Shangri-La International Hi-Tech Healthcare Park is a joint venture between the Vietnam Hoa Lam Services Co. Ltd. and Singapore’s Shangri-La Healthcare Investment Pte. Ltd, providing advanced healthcare and medical technology and surgery experience for the development of Vietnam’s healthcare sector.
