The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has licensed 91 pavement locations for electric vehicle battery swap cabinets on streets including Hai Ba Trung, Huyen Tran Cong Chua, Le Lai, Vanh Dai Trong, Le Thanh Ton, Ly Tu Trong, Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Nguyen Thai Hoc and Le Quy Don.
The department has also published a list of 101 additional locations that meet installation requirements and said it is continuing to review further eligible sites for future approval.
Under the regulations, battery swap stations must not be installed at intersections, entrances and exits, pedestrian crossings, accessible routes for people with disabilities, or areas with dense existing technical infrastructure. Installations must also leave at least 1.5 metres of clear pavement space for pedestrians.
The department is finalising its end of term report for a citywide transport emissions control scheme. The plan sets out a roadmap under which 100 per cent of motorbikes used for app based passenger and goods services, about 400,000 vehicles, would switch to electric or other green energy vehicles, alongside proposed support policies to help residents make the transition.
The scheme forecasts that by 2030 Ho Chi Minh City will have about 1.2 million electric motorbikes and will need to develop more than 25,000 public charging points and battery swap cabinets to support them.
