A fleet of more than 70 tourist vessels staged a large-scale light and fireworks display on Ha Long Bay on the evenings of August 27 and August 28, creating a new night-time tourism attraction and marking the establishment of Quang Ninh City.

The event opened on August 27 at Ha Long International Cruise Port, drawing residents and visitors to one of Vietnam's most renowned natural landmarks.
Participating vessels were fitted with multi-coloured LED lighting systems, creating synchronised visual effects across the waters of the UNESCO-listed bay. The display was accompanied by a fireworks performance lasting around 10 minutes, as well as cultural and artistic activities held along the shoreline.
The event transformed the bay into a vibrant spectacle of light and colour and formed part of celebrations surrounding the creation of Quang Ninh City.
This was the second time this year that Ha Long Bay's tourism fleet had participated in a coordinated light show programme.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Van Cong, vice-chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, said the province was expanding its development space and strengthening links between the Ha Long Bay, Yen Tu and Bai Tu Long tourism corridors as part of a broader strategy that includes the development of the Bai Tu Long Marine Park.
Cong said Quang Ninh was also gradually developing its night-time economy, heritage economy and cultural industries to diversify tourism offerings and create new sources of growth.
He added that, with support from the business community, the province's tourism fleet had undergone significant investment and upgrades, with vessels increasingly designed to meet international standards of comfort and luxury.
According to provincial officials, these investments have helped improve visitor experiences while fostering a distinctive cruise culture on Ha Long Bay.
The light show programme runs from August 27 to August 28 between 6.30 pm and 10 pm. Unlike previous events that could mainly be viewed from the shore, visitors are able to board participating vessels and experience the displays directly from the bay.
During the evening cruises, passengers can enjoy local cuisine while watching synchronised lighting effects, music performances and fireworks displays from the surrounding vessels.
Organisers said they hope the programme will help establish the brand of “Ha Long Bay by Night”, enhance the destination's appeal and encourage visitors to extend their stays in Quang Ninh.
