Chi gets up at 3 am every day to do the clean-up and prepare food for the cats at her home and then brings the food to feral cats at different places in the city. She usually returns home late in the evening.

The woman said that her health has recently deteriorated and she often had backache, which has affected her care for the cats. But luckily, she has support and help from friends and other cat lovers.

"Many people said I was mad to have devoted so much to the cats," she said. "But many others appreciated, respected, and joined me to take care of the poor cats which I call my children."

The woman has lost count of the number of children being kept at her home.

"Those six kittens were my new children who joined the family two days ago," she said "They were abandoned and left hungry on a local street. My home was very crowded already but I just couldn't turn them away."

Chi said that some people only love beautiful animals, but she loves them even when they look ill and dirty.

She’s fed many of the feral cats on Le Quy Don Street, District 3 and they all turn up when seeing her and hearing her voice.

Besides feeding them, the woman has also tried to save them from traps set by hunters.

"While cat meat is still a favourite for many people, the cats here often live in danger," she said. "I hope that gradually more people will treat them as close pets."
