Under a decision issued by the municipal People's Committee, seven onshore sites have a combined capacity of over 12.5 million cubic metres, while the offshore site can accommodate about 13.6 million cubic metres.
The largest onshore site is the 387-hectare Van Thuong Industrial Park project in Tan Hai Ward, which is expected to receive 8 million cubic metres of dredged material for land reclamation from 2027, or earlier once required procedures are completed.
The Phuoc Hoa Ward port logistics project, covering nearly 42 hectares, is expected to receive another 1.6 million cubic metres.
Other onshore sites include Long Son My Xuan General Port and SP-PSA International Port in Phu My Ward, Ben Dinh Islet Urban Area in Vung Tau Ward, farmland in Co Trach Hamlet in Thanh An Commune, and a site in Phuoc Thang Ward.
The offshore Vung Tau disposal area, defined by four VN-2000 coordinates, has a capacity of about 13.6 million cubic metres.
Organisations and businesses seeking to dispose of dredged material must submit proposals for city approval before proceeding, the People's Committee said. Work can begin only after environmental, mineral and maritime safety requirements have been met.
Dredging must be suspended immediately in the event of pollution or safety incidents until remedial measures are taken.
The HCM City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Projects Management Board had earlier reported difficulties finding sites for about 17 million cubic metres of dredged material from urban redevelopment projects.
The newly designated sites are expected to help address a major bottleneck affecting key infrastructure projects across the city.
