More than 2,500 motorists were found driving under the influence of alcohol on September 1 as traffic police intensified enforcement during Vietnam's National Day holiday.

According to the Traffic Police Department, 46 road accidents were recorded nationwide on the fourth day of the holiday period, leaving 22 people dead and 34 injured.
Compared with the corresponding holiday period in 2025, the number of accidents fell by four, fatalities decreased by eight and injuries increased by one.
During the day, traffic police across the country received reports of more than 20,000 traffic violations and formally processed nearly 16,000 cases.
On the road network alone, authorities detected almost 16,000 violations related to traffic safety and public order, issuing penalties in more than 15,500 cases.
Police also impounded 78 cars and more than 2,700 motorcycles.
Among the offences recorded, nearly 2,500 involved drink-driving, while more than 3,400 motorists were penalised for speeding.
The figures come as authorities continue nationwide enforcement campaigns aimed at reducing traffic accidents during one of Vietnam's busiest travel periods of the year.
Traffic volumes traditionally rise sharply during the National Day holiday as millions of people travel between major cities and tourist destinations, prompting increased patrols and stricter monitoring by law enforcement agencies.
