Authorities in Can Tho have approved plans to select investors for two large-scale urban development projects covering nearly 340 hectares and requiring a combined estimated investment of more than VND 16.4 trillion (USD 627 million).
The projects, named Mai Dam Riverside New Urban Area and Rach Cai Nai New Urban Area, are expected to become major residential and commercial hubs in the Mekong Delta city.

The Mai Dam Riverside New Urban Area will cover approximately 139.97 hectares in Chau Thanh Commune. The development is planned as a mixed-use urban area featuring residential neighbourhoods, commercial and service facilities, public buildings, parks, green spaces, water features and supporting infrastructure.
The project's estimated investment cost is more than VND 1.647 trillion (USD 63 million).
Meanwhile, the Rach Cai Nai New Urban Area will occupy around 200 hectares across Hung Phu Ward and Cai Rang Ward.
The development is envisioned as a comprehensive urban district comprising housing, commercial and service areas, public facilities, green spaces, water landscapes and transport infrastructure.
The project's estimated investment cost exceeds VND 14.7 trillion (USD 564 million).
Both projects will have an operational term of 50 years from the date the state allocates or leases the land, or approves a change in land-use purpose.
According to the approved plan, investors will be selected through an international open bidding process using a one-stage, one-envelope method.
The investor selection process is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026.
The developments form part of Can Tho's broader strategy to expand urban infrastructure, attract investment and strengthen its role as the economic centre of Vietnam's Mekong Delta region.
