Vice chairman of HCM City People's Committee, Le Hoa Binh, died on Tuesday in a traffic accident on the HCM City-Trung Luong Expressway.

Binh died in a traffic accident while on a business trip to the neighbouring province of Long An.

According to a report from the committee, the 52-year-old official was travelling on the Ho Chi Minh City-Trung Luong Expressway in Long An Province at 7.45 am when his car had a tyre blowout. The driver, Nguyen Quang Vinh, lost control and the car flipped over. The official and driver and another man, Duong Tan Truoc, were all seriously injured and were rushed to Long An Provincial General Hospital.
However, Binh died shortly after that due to serious injuries. His body has been taken to Ho Chi Minh City while local authorities are further investigating the cause of the accident.
Binh was re-elected HCMC's vice chairman last December for the 2021-2026 term. He was in charge of urban planning, management and development, land, resources and environment management, traffic, transportation, water supply, and drainage.
