HCM City has started using one million doses of Sinopharm’s Covid-19 Vero Cell vaccine from today, August 13.
Dr Nguyen Hoai Nam, deputy director of the municipal Department of Health, said that the city has set a target to provide Covid-19 vaccines for around 70% of local residents aged over 18 by late this month.
The city had used over 4.1 million doses of vaccines allocated by the Ministry of Health. The city has received one million doses of Sinopharm’s Vero Cell vaccine, added to the Astra Zeneca, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines already used.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health said the Vero Cell vaccine met requirements after being examined by the National Institute for Control of Vaccine and Biologicals. The ministry allowed HCM City to use one million doses of Sinopharm's vaccine Vero Cell.
Authorities of HCM City’s District 7 are calling local people to register for the Vero Cell vaccination.
On August 10, a firm in HCM City used Vero Cell for its staff. The company was given 19,000 doses of the vaccine.
Meanwhile, HCM City authorities have assigned state-owned Saigon Pharmaceutical Group to negotiate and sign contracts to purchase five million doses of Moderna vaccine MRNA-1273. The first batch of two million doses is expected to arrive in October.
