The Municipal Department of Statistics said that this month’s increase, compared to last year’s, would be up by 12.36%.
Food prices are in the lead, with rises of 3.56%, followed by restaurant and food services, which are up by 2.8%. Beverages and tobacco are up by 2.5%.
The department attributed the rises in price to the lack of supply of fresh food, especially fish and vegetables. These can be attributed to the cold weather.
Apparel, rent, water and electricity also saw modest increases of in between 0.03% and 1.1%. Other goods and services, such as gas, construction materials, home appliances, medical services transportation went up as well.
Telecommunications services in January, however, have stayed the same compared to last month.
On the other hand, gold and USD prices have fallen by 0.08% and 0.71%, respectively, from December.
Earlier, Hanoi’s CPI in January was expected by between 1.3% and 1.5% from December. Last year Hanoi’s CPI surged 9.56%, including a rise of 1.83% in December, due to the high prices of industrial production materials, which caused an increase price of the production and the price of goods. |
