The Ministry of Construction has approved the investment plan for the project, which is scheduled to be carried out between 2026 and 2028.
The project will build and upgrade runways and taxiways to allow the airport to efficiently handle Code E aircraft, including Boeing 747s and 787s and Airbus A350s.
The ministry said the investment would help meet growing air travel demand while supporting economic development, national defence and security in Da Nang and the central coastal region.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has been tasked with finalising the investment proposal and transferring the study results to the Thang Long Project Management Board, the project's investor.
The authority will also work with the investor on the feasibility study and project implementation to ensure progress.
The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation has been asked to prepare investment procedures for air navigation facilities under the airport's approved master plan, ensuring they are developed in step with the runway and taxiway upgrades.
The project follows consultations with relevant agencies and organisations, after which the Civil Aviation Authority revised and submitted the investment proposal to the Ministry of Construction for approval
