Young trees on Hanoi streets are usually protected to prevent them from falling in strong winds.
However, local authorities often forget to remove the tight rings when they grow, affecting their development.

The trees along some streets including Pham Van Dong, Cau Giay, and Lang Ha have grown but the metal rings around them have not been removed.
The rings have left large scars on the trees.
Some Indian almond trees on Nguyen Duc Thuan Street in Gia Lam District are dying due to decay developed from the trunk around the rings.

On other streets, the fences have just been removed but the rings are still left there as they penetrate deep into the tree trunks.

A representative from the Hanoi Construction Department told Dantri/Dtinews on October 28 that they would immediately send a team to check all the trees being supported by fences and rings in the city.
"We'll enlarge or remove the rings from the trees if they have grown up enough," the department said.
