Gia Lai seeks international charter flights to boost tourism

Gia Lai Province has asked central authorities to support the launch of international charter flights as it seeks to expand overseas tourism markets and drive economic growth.

In a proposal sent to several ministries and tourism authorities, the province called for support to promote Gia Lai in key international markets and connect with overseas tour operators to develop charter flight programmes.

The province is seeking to attract visitors from China, South Korea, Japan and other Northeast Asian markets, while proposing pilot programmes for international charter services.

Gia Lai also urged the Ministry of Construction to expedite procedures for the second runway at Phu Cat Airport, including the phased handover of completed facilities to speed up commercial charter flights.

The province asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote Gia Lai through Vietnam's overseas missions and connect it with international tour operators, airlines and investors interested in charter flights.

Authorities said they would continue investing in tourism infrastructure, improve services and ensure aviation, customs, immigration and safety requirements are met to support the launch of international charter flights.
