Hanoi speeds up work on seven Red River bridges for APEC 2027

Hanoi is accelerating construction of seven bridges across the Red River, aiming to complete them in the second quarter of 2027 ahead of the APEC summit.

The projects comprise Tu Lien, Ngoc Hoi, Tran Hung Dao, Thuong Cat, Van Phuc, Hong Ha and Me So bridges, according to Hanoi's socio-economic report for the third quarter and first nine months of 2026.

Hong Ha and Me So bridges have made the most progress, with completed work accounting for more than 45 per cent of their contract values.

Work on Hong Ha Bridge has reached about VND 1.862 trillion (USD 70.8 million) out of a VND 3.975 trillion contract, or 46.9 per cent, excluding contingency costs. Me So Bridge has reached VND 814.8 billion out of VND 1.8 trillion, or 45.2 per cent.

Construction of Tran Hung Dao Bridge has reached 34.8 per cent of its contract value, while Van Phuc Bridge has reached 30.3 per cent.

Tu Lien Bridge is 20.4 per cent complete by contract value, while Thuong Cat Bridge has reached 16.2 per cent. Work completed on Ngoc Hoi Bridge is valued at about VND 678.3 billion.

All land within the project boundaries has been handed over, although some demolition and utility relocation work remains at Tu Lien and Tran Hung Dao bridges, while Thuong Cat Bridge requires an additional 1.1 hectares of land clearance.

Hanoi authorities have ordered close monitoring of construction schedules, with weekly and monthly progress reports, while encouraging the use of modern technology to speed up work.

The seven bridges are expected to improve links across the Red River, ease pressure on existing crossings and support the capital's urban development.
