Hanoi sets plan to build more than 1,200 new schools by 2030

Hanoi has reserved land to build about 1,226 new schools between 2021 and 2030 to meet rising demand across the expanded administrative area.

Hanoi has earmarked land for about 1,226 new schools between 2021 and 2030, with a vision to 2050. Of these, 884 will be kindergartens and 567 primary schools. The city also plans to build 519 secondary schools and 140 high schools.

The municipal government has instructed the Department of Education and Training to work with local authorities to assess demand for public schools under the city’s new administrative boundaries. The results will form the basis for investment proposals to ensure adequate classroom capacity for the city’s growing student population.

From 2021 to 2025, Hanoi has launched 139 school repair, renovation and construction projects at the city level, and 514 at the district level, with total investment exceeding VND 30 trillion (approximately USD 1.14 billion).

Voters in Xuan Dinh Ward have also called for faster progress on school construction, including the Xuan Dinh Kindergarten in the Tay Ho Tay urban area. The city said the project is under way, with the main classroom block completed to the first floor and upper levels under construction.

A nursery project in Xuan Dinh began in July, while two primary schools and a lower, secondary school in the ward are expected to start construction in 2025 and be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.
