Authorities will prohibit vehicles from travelling along Cau Dat Street between the Cau Dat-Lach Tray intersection and the Hai Ba Trung-Cau Dat intersection during the five-hour operation.
Cau Dat is one of the busiest and most commercial streets in central Haiphong, lined with shops selling gold, silver, confectionery and clothing. The site where the bomb was found was formerly a well-known gold shop.
According to authorities, construction workers digging the foundations of a house at 96 Cau Dat on September 3 discovered a suspicious object and alerted officials. After inspection, the Haiphong Military Command determined that it was a bomb left over from the war and drew up plans to recover, transport and detonate it. The bomb's type and size have not yet been disclosed.
During the war, Haiphong was one of the main targets of US air and naval attacks.
