Up to 22,652 teachers and students in the northern province of Hai Phong have been infected with Covid-19, said Bui Van Kiem, Director of the municipal Department of Education and Training.
Kiem gave the information at an online meeting on the city’s Covid-19 prevention and control measures on February 14.
According to Kiem, 21,364 Covid-19 cases are the city’s students, while 1,288 are teachers.
Among the total figure of 22,652 patients, 6,104 have not yet been vaccinated against Covid-19.
Amid the Covid-19 outbreak, Haiphong has combined both online and in-person classes.
Teachers and students who test positive for Covid-19 will be treated at home. While those who have close contact with Covid-19 patients are allowed to return to school after being tested negative for the virus.
All teachers and staff at schools have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 before coming back to their work.
The Haiphong Department of Education and Training reported that around 28 percent of primary school students have attended in-person study, while the rate for nursery and secondary high schools is 15 percent and 43 percent respectively.
Nguyen Van Tung, chairman of the Haiphong People’s Committee, urged local districts to tighten control over Covid-19 prevention measures. People are advised to seek medical staff’s support for Covid-19 treatment, instead of buying medicines themselves.
Tung instructed inspections on local pharmacies to detect the selling of Covid-19 treatment medicines.
