Border guards at the Lao Bao International Border Gate detained Ha Thi Huong, 29, and three Chinese nationals including Chen Wej Jle, 28, Weng Kai Bing, 27, and Zou Jing Zhao, 26 on March 28 while trying to cross a border path from Huong Hoa District to Laos.
At the police station, the four said that they intended to go to Laos and Myanmar to work. However, as they could not prepare their papers, they came to seek help from some groups that provide the service illegally.
Through investigations, Quang Tri Police detained three local men who organised the illegal border crossing service for the group, including Truong The Sy, 36, Truong Quang Huy, 26, and Le Van Quy, 29.
Sy told the police that he was hired by a man who he didn't know to transport the four people from Cam Lo District and Dong Ha City to Lao Bao Town with the fee of VND1.80 million. Sy then called Huy and Quy to join using their motorbikes.
"The man told us to transport the group to a path close to the border gate and someone will wait there to take them to Laos," Sy said. "The man also promised to give us some drugs after we complete our work."
Quang Tri police are further investigating the case.
