According to the Ministry of Health, another 1,700,000 tablets will arrive in Vietnam on August 28 and more will be imported in early September. Meanwhile, local firms said they are ready to produce the first Molnupiravir tablets and by September 5, they will be able to provide 2,320,000 tablets.

The tablets will be crucial for the programme to treat Covid-19 patients at home. The Ministry of Health has been updating new treatment procedures to prevent worsening conditions among patients. The tablets will be officially used for Covid-19 patients from August 25 in HCM City.

Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms will be introduced to the programme. If they agree to participate, they will be given a home-based care package with the tablets. Their health will be monitored for two weeks and assessed after five days.

The procedures and the results will be reviewed by experts in scientific research approved by the Council of Ethics in Biomedical Research and the Ministry of Health.

The effectiveness of Molnupiravir tablets against Covid-19 after five days has been proved to be positive in several countries. The tablets have helped reduce the number of in-patients and fatalities.
