Thanh Hoa City authorities have been asked to halt a USD29m project to build a new administrative complex in a context where Vietnam is dealing with public debts and budget difficulties.

Thanh Hoa new administrative complex project halted
The complex is said to include three main buildings for day-to-day work, conference centre and guest house as well as other support structures to serve a population of one million people.
Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung asked Thanh Hoa’s authorities to file a report on the proposals by May 30. Dung also asked the Ministry of Construction to review and report similar cases in Thanh Hoa City, Thanh Hoa Province as well as other provinces and cities.
An official document was issued last November to ask all local authorities to stop carrying out such projects due to public spending constraints.
The decision was announced after several costly administration centre projects were built or announced at various localities. Hai Phong City proposed to build a VND9.8trn complex while Nghe An Province wanted to build a VND2trn complex.
