Under the proposal released on May 27, Ly Son is expected to become a leading coastal tourism destination in central Vietnam by 2030 and attract 400,000 visitors annually.

By 2045, authorities aim for the island to become a national marine tourism centre and a stop on international cruise routes, with annual tourist arrivals projected to reach 2.5 million.
After 2030, Quang Ngai is set to develop a dual-use airport serving both civilian and military purposes, along with an international passenger port south of the site.
The province also aims to build a cable car system linking Ly Son’s main island and nearby Be Island.
Authorities said the island would further develop museums, cultural festivals, night-time economy zones, beach entertainment areas and high-end tourism services to attract visitors and increase spending.
Marine sports tourism including surfing, paragliding and open-water swimming is also included in the long-term development plan.
Ly Son Island, located about 17 nautical miles off the mainland, is known for its volcanic landscapes, beaches and traditional garlic farming.
