Easy customs clearance urged for 31 million Pfizer doses

The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology has proposed quickening customs clearance procedures for 31 million doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines which are going to be brought into Vietnam soon.

The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology has proposed quickening customs clearance procedures for 31 million doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines which are going to be brought into Vietnam soon.

The institute, which will receive this vaccine from Belgium sent the recommendation to concerned agencies on Monday, pledging to conform to the vaccine import procedures.

According to the institute, vaccine preservation during the transportation process requires strict conditions. For instance, the vaccine must be stored at an ultra-low temperature, and should not be checked. In necessary cases, the checking process should not be more than three minutes to avoid affecting the vaccine quality.

Earlier, the government agreed with the prime minister’s approval to choose contractors in buying 19,998,810 doses of the vaccine in line with conditions stated in its decision issued in May.

The Ministry of Health will be responsible for the purchase of the vaccine as soon as possible in an effort to meet the need in Covid-19 prevention and control.

Vietnam is expected to receive around 10 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine in August and September each.

The country has targeted to vaccinate around 75% of the population against Covid-19 by the end of this year or early next year.
