According to Dam, despite the sharp rise in patient numbers, Vietnam has been controlling the disease well.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said that AstraZeneca from the UK pledged to supply about 30 million doses for Vietnam and the vaccine is expected to be available this quarter. Vietnam will also continue to talk with companies from Russia about vaccine supply.

"The first doses of vaccine are expected to be given to people in the first quarter of this year,” reassured Long.

Vietnam had registered a total 873 locally-infected Covid-19 cases by 6 am this morning, January 30, including 743 since July 25.

Hai Duong Province is facing a big outbreak of Covid-19 with more than 100 patients since Thursday. The disease has spread to other localities, including Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.
