Vietnam consumer confidence in December reached a record high of 144.8 points in December, up 2.5 points on November, according to a survey by ANZ bank.

According to ANZ, this is also the first time Vietnam has topped Asia in terms of its consumer confidence index. The index rise could help Vietnam to become one of Asia’s best performing economies in Asia between 2016 and 2017.

Vietnam consumer confidence in December reached a record high of 144.8 points in December

The point in December is much higher the country’s average level of the past two years of 136.6 points, the survey said.

ANZ attributed the index increase in December to public trust in the economy’s prospect over the next 12 months and near future.

Glenn Maguire, chief economist at ANZ’s South Asia, ASEAN & Pacific, cited the survey, saying that 61% of respondents expected that the country’s financial situation would be good in the next 12 months, while 66% hoped that the economy would see positive performance over the next five years.

Vietnam has good momentum to enter 2016 as household spending will continue to contribute a major proportion of consumer spending in 2016, which accounts for 65% of GDP, he noted.
