Authorities from Border Guard Flotilla 18 on October 3 escorted the vessel DT 93686 TS, its captain and crew to the unit's port in Phuoc Thang Ward for further investigation.
The vessel was spotted showing suspicious signs in waters off HCM City at around noon on October 2 and was subsequently inspected by a patrol team.
Five people were aboard. Captain Vo Thanh Phong, born in 1981 and residing in Dong Thap Province, was unable to produce all required documents for the crew and vessel.
Phong said the vessel was carrying about 50,000 litres of diesel oil. However, he could not provide invoices or documents proving the fuel's legal origin or quality.
The border guards have documented the case and are investigating it for further action in accordance with the law.
