AirAsia has signed an agreement with VietJet Air to start a new low-cost carrier, tentatively called VietJet AirAsia.
AirAsia inked the strategic partnership agreement with VietJet Air for the purpose of providing airline-related services, including engineering support services, in a deal worth RM11.2mil.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong witnessed the signing of the strategic partnership agreement between VietJet Air CEO Nguyen Duc Tam and AirAsia Group CEO Datuk Tony Fernandes, here Thursday.
AirAsia had earlier acquired a 30% equity stake in VietJet Air.
Fernandes said the support of both Governments underlined their commitment to further develop tourism in the Asean region.
"Their support is instrumental in our ability to offer low fares to the Vietnamese people and the international tourists who flock to Vietnam," he said in a statement, adding that VietJet AirAsia would be operating both domestic and international flights.
