Agencies relocated for Hoan Kiem Lake square construction work

Several agencies are relocating to hand over the site for the construction of a new square and park on the eastern side of Hoan Kiem Lake.

The relocation occurred this morning, August 12, at the headquarters of Hoan Kiem Power Company, the Hanoi Blind Association and the Hanoi Convention Centre.

While some agencies have relocated or are in the process of moving, others slated for relocation continue to operate as usual.

Under the plan, the square and park on the eastern side of Hoan Kiem Lake will be developed into a public space connected to the surrounding greenery, providing a venue for community gatherings, art performances, exhibitions and cultural events.

The 2-hectare redevelopment of Hoan Kiem Lake’s eastern side will be implemented in two phases: building the square and park above ground with public funds, then adding a three-level underground facility linked to Station C9 on the Nam Thang Long-Tran Hung Dao Metro route.

Hanoi has assigned the former Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee, now Hoan Kiem Ward, as the investor for the project.

Agencies slated for relocation include the Department of Culture and Sports, the Hanoi Population Department, the Hanoi Blind Association, the Northern Power Corporation, the Hanoi Power Corporation, the National Power Transmission Corporation, the Power Hotel, the city’s Citizen Reception Office, Hoan Kiem Power Company, and the State Treasury Office, among others.

The project will also require relocating dozens of households in the area, with the city pledging to offer the most favourable policies for affected residents.

In addition to the eastern area, Hoan Kiem Ward is speeding up the renovation of Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, with the demolition of the Shark Jaw Building as its highlight. Plans for the site include a new square and a three-level underground facility.
