Additional 6,559 Covid-19 infections confirmed on Wednesday

An additional 6,559 Covid-19 infections were recorded on Wednesday in Vietnam, raising the total number of patients in the country to 120,819, the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 6,555 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 4,449 in Ho Chi Minh City, 631 in Binh Duong, 271 in Dong Nai, 244 in Dong Thap,147 in Khanh Hoa, 120 in Tay Ninh, 92 in Tra Vinh, 84 in Ben Tre, 74 in Hanoi, 71 in Can Tho, 64 in Phu Yen, 56 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 50 in Danang, 32 in Binh Thuan, 30 in Tien Giang, 25 in Ninh Thuan, 24 in An Giang, 13 in Dak Lak, 12 in Soc Trang, 12 in Vinh Phuc, 11 in Quang Nam, six in Hai Duong, six in Hau Giang, five in Thai Nguyen, four in Gia Lai, four in Ninh Binh, three in Ha Giang, three in Binh Phuoc, two in Binh Dinh, two in Thua Thien-Hue, two in Ha Tinh, two in Ca Mau, and one each in Dak Nong, Quang Ngai, Quang Tri, and Thanh Hoa. Among these new infections, 1,184 cases were found in the communities.


Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Tuesday, the city also recorded 6,318 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. Social distancing rules are being further tightened in the city to contain the virus spread.

There were four imported patients confirmed who are all Vietnamese people who recently returned from abroad.

As of Wednesday evening, 117,042 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 77,189 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 120,819 including 118,612 locally-transmitted cases.

On July 28, a total of 4,511 more patients were released from hospital following their full recovery, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 27,457.

Also on Wednesday, a further 106 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 630.

The country has conducted over five million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 450,836 people having received two doses.
