Additional 277 Covid-19 cases recorded, mostly in HCM City

Vietnam logged 277 more local Covid-19 infections in the past 12 hours as of 6 am on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health announced.

Ho Chi Minh City, which is the country’s current largest pandemic hotspot, recorded most of the infections, with 230 cases; followed by Phu Yen (18), Dong Nai (11), An Giang (10), Hung Yen (5), Vinh Long (2) and Ha Nam (1).

Among the new cases, 228 were found in quarantine sites or sealed-off areas, while the others in Dong Nai, HCM City and An Giang are still under epidemic investigations to identify the infection causes.

The additional figure brought the national tally to 19,441 locally-infected cases and 1,871 others from abroad as of 6 am on Tuesday. There have been 17,871 cases recorded since April 27, when the fourth Covid-19 wave outbreak began in the country.

Yen Bai, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Tuyen Quang, Son La, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Dien Bien, Vinh Phuc, Hai Duong, Phu Tho, Quang Nam, Nam Dinh, and Ha Nam have gone through 14 days without detecting any new cases.

Currently, 243,769 people are under quarantine, including 2,597 at hospitals and the others at homes and quarantine sites.
