An additional 15,954 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Vietnam on Wednesday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number of patients with nearly 2,900 cases, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 15,885 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,884), Danang (991), Bac Ninh (865), Hai Phong (702), and Thanh Hoa (587). There were 69 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 186 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,571 infections found in the community.
As of Wednesday evening, 2,180,679 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (513,091), Binh Duong (292,660), Hanoi (117,268), Dong Nai (99,756), and Tay Ninh (87,571). Vietnam has so far confirmed 166 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,187,481. The country now stands 28th among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On January 26, an additional 20,540 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,924,609.
On Tuesday evening, a further 155 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 37,165. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (19), Dong Nai (11), Vinh Long (9), HCM (8), Khanh Hoa (7), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (7), Kien Giang (7), and Can Tho (7).
Vietnam on January 25 administered 1.44 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 178.81 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 73.96 million people having received two doses.
