As of March 27, there were 163 confirmed cases in Vietnam, 147 cases have been discovered since March 6 and four patients have been released from medical care.

The number of suspected cases is also rising. On March 23, 645 people were suspected to have SARS-CoV-2 but this number increased to 1,729 people on March 27. In order to curb the spread, Vietnam is quarantining and monitoring 57,000 people. 1,700 people were quarantined in hospitals, 27,000 people are in centralised quarantined areas and over 28,000 are home isolated.

Nearly 32,000 samples have been tested.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc the same day issued a new directive which asked all people to limit travelling and people over 60 years old to stay home all time as the outbreak in Vietnam has gone into a new phase. From March 27 to April 15, Vietnam has banned gatherings of more than 20 people or up to 10 people outside offices, schools and hospitals.

There are 58 cases in Hanoi since March 6. 772 people who are in close contact to the confirmed cases are being quarantined. 15,000 people are being monitored. Nearly 500 medical staff have been quarantined after a cluster of cases broke out at Bach Mai Hospital. Over 5,000 people including the staff, patients and family members will be tested.

HCM City has the second largest number of cases in Vietnam with 44 confirmed patients. 9,500 people are in group quarantine, 2,700 of them had close contact with confirmed patients. Another 1,500 people are home-isolated. The authorities have detected 160 people who went to Buddha Bar where a man tested positive to the virus.

The central city of Danang has six confirmed cases and 119 suspected cases. The authorities will test 119 people and are quarantining 216 people at hospitals. Over 2,200 people are being quarantined in groups and 1,300 people are home-isolation.

Quang Ninh provincial authorities reported that there were two cases in the area and their treatments went well. One of them has had the first negative test and the health of the other person is stable. They have quarantined 106 people at medical facilities and 824 people in groups in other facilities.

Border provinces like Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Tri are dealing with a surge in a rising number of people returning from Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.
