The new rules have been in effect since January 1, imposing tougher regulations on traffic violations.
After two weeks of enforcing the new decree, 174,650 traffic safety violations were reported nationwide, an 11.54 percent decrease from the previous two weeks.

During this period, traffic police nationwide confiscated around 17,600 driving licenses and temporarily impounded 955 cars and 49,700 motorbikes. More than 36,000 drivers were found driving while intoxicated, 37,300 were caught exceeding the speed limit, and nearly 3,300 people were detected violating traffic light signals.
The country recorded 681 traffic accidents during this period, resulting in 365 fatalities and 453 injuries. Compared to the previous two weeks, accidents decreased by 347, while fatalities and injuries dropped by 94 and 301, respectively.
Under the new regulations, cars that fail to stop at red lights will be fined VND20 million (USD780), up from the previous VND6 million (USD230). Motorbikes running red lights will be fined VND4-6 million.
