Northern region forecasted to face heat wave

Vietnam's northern region is likely to struggle with a widespread heat wave from July 15, with the highest temperature of more than 37 degrees Celsius.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, recent days have seen showers and thunderstorms across northern localities due to the influence of a low-pressure trough. Rainfall over the past three days ranged from 80 to 120 millimetres.

A western low-pressure system from July 15 will bring widespread heat to northern Vietnam. In Hanoi, temperatures will rise from 26-34 degrees Celsius early in the week to 28-37 degrees Celsius by midweek. In high-altitude areas like Sapa, the temperature may reach 19-27 degrees Celsius.

Central localities from Danang to Quang Tri will also witness hot weather, reaching 35 degrees Celsius or above from July 15.

Next week, the Central Highlands and southern regions will have the highest temperatures of 31 and 34 degrees Celsius, respectively.
