The contest, launched by Caluire-et-Cuire town in Region Rhone-Alpes, is among activities to mark the 40th anniversary of International Day of Francophonie (March 20, 2010).
Thanks to the introduction of the French-speaking club in Danang and ANAI de Lyon Organization, Nguyen Thi My Ngoc, who teaches French at Trung Vuong Secondary School in Hai Chau district, submitted 10 short stories she wrote in French to the contest.
Among those, some were written in both Vietnamese and French such as “Strom”, “Ideal Man” and “Wish life to be a dream”.
With her excellent ability of using French and composing stories, Ngoc persuaded the board of examiners that she was the winner.
In 2008, the teacher acquired the first prize of a contest entitled “Dix mots de la sencontre” organised by the French Embassy in Vietnam.
Currently, around 0.55% of Vietnamese people use French, making it the second most common foreign language used in Vietnam after English.
Since joining the Francophone community in 1970, the Southeast Asian nation boosted French teaching on all educational levels through support from French organisations and agencies, including the Priority Solidarity Fund (FSP).
