More than 100 hospitalised after eating banh mi

More than 100 people in An Khe Ward, Gia Lai Province, were hospitalised with suspected food poisoning after eating banh mi at a local shop.

According to a report from the People's Committee of An Khe Ward, since the evening of August 23, more than 100 people who ate banh mi bought from the B.B. business household in An Khe Ward have been admitted for treatment at An Khe Medical Centre.

Upon admission, the patients showed symptoms including severe abdominal pain, diarrhoea, repeated vomiting and fever.

Of the more than 100 patients, four were transferred to Gia Lai Central General Hospital for further treatment. The remaining patients are being treated at An Khe Medical Centre. No deaths or severe cases have been recorded.

A representative of the People's Committee of An Khe Ward said the local authorities had ordered the banh mi business to suspend operations while the cause is investigated.

An Khe Ward Health Station, in coordination with the Gia Lai Province Food Safety and Hygiene Sub-Department, has collected food samples from the premises for testing to determine the cause of the incident.
